The 20 acre gathering and festival site is located in semi-wilderness outside Easyford, Alberta (west of Drayton Valley). A "vehicle-free" camping zone for walk in tent camping sprawls across a meadow lined with tall spruce. A field across the creek has room for "vehicle-assisted" tent camping or small campers and RVs.
On-site porta-potties, a limited supply of firewood for small campfires and non-potable wash water are provided, but there are no "services" or picnic tables. Bring all of your own camping supplies, food, beverages and potable drinking water. The gathering aims to be as green as possible and minimize environmental impacts so we ask you to plan accordingly, live lightly, and if you need power, go solar. The gathering aims to be very kid and family friendly. Gas / diesel generators are nosiy, smell and we discourage them.
There are many opportunities for people of any age to volunteer at the festival.
Please contact Brass Monkey Productions for further info. The gathering is also focused on being very kid and family friendly. It is operated as a private gathering and belligerent, disrespectful or unsafe behavior is simply not tolerated.
Some local guests head home overnight, but the music, campfires, story-telling and camaraderie goes late, so staying on site will limit your need to drive and you won’t have to miss anything.
some Sasquatch Gathering tips...
1) B.Y.O whatever you need – this is a very small event with few services and no food vendors. Although there are grocery stores and services available in Drayton Valley (about 20 minutes drive from the site), it is best to bring anything you might need or want during your stay to minimize any need for trips off-site.
2) Everyone is invited to participate in the potluck on Saturday at 6 pm. Bring a generous contribution to at last one category of main course, salads and/or desert, along with your plates, cutlery and beverages. Plan to And share in this generally natural and organic, highly gourmet community culinary experience - it's always fantastic !
3) Checking in – You will be welcomed and registered by our front gate Communications volunteers. We do like to be aware of which kids or pets go with which camps. Please include this information on your camping release form. Front gate staff will then direct you to the day parking, vehicle camping area or tent camping unloading zone (some wheel barrows and maybe even the odd sherpa will be around if you need assistance with your camping gear).
4) Camping – the site is divided into two parts: one for tents or trailers with vehicles and the other for "vehicle free" tent camping only (accessible by three foot bridges across the stream). The main stage and potluck tent are on the vehicle free side of the creek. The new Groove Grotto performance area is located at the North end of the site on the vehicle side of the creek.
5) Kids – Sasquatch is a family event. Children 12 and under may attend for free when accompanied by an adult. Children should not be left unattended at the river or near fires, cooking apparatus or other dangerous situations.
6) Dogs - Well-behaved dogs are allowed at Sasquatch. But, owners are asked to control and pick up after their pets. If the stress or excitement of other dogs, lots of kids, or deer and coyotes wandering in the area is not easily managed by your dog, then please don’t bring them along.
7) Safety matters – Please bring adequate sun screen and bug spray. It is advisable to have a water bottle, drink plenty of water and to be prepared for inclement weather (bring a change of clothes & footwear, rain poncho & boots and some warm clothes for the late evening). Our Lifeline (first aid) staff available in a camp on the South end of the site. If you or anyone you're with does get hurt, please notify Communications or Lifeline staff immediately.
8) Courtesy - please pick up after yourself, and pack out as much of your own garbge as you can. Help us continue with the Sasquatch "no garbage left behind" track record ? no caps, no cigarette butts, no plastic twist ties etc. You can use the garbage and recycling bins provided and feel free to donate empty (bottles & cans to the Society). Look out for your neighbors as you would have them look out for you. Open fires outside of the fire rings are not permitted. Please dispose of bottle caps and other non-flamable waste in garbage containers.
9) Bring your crafts and your musical instruments - this is a gathering and celebration of creativity and artistic endeavor at all levels.
We thank you for your cooperation and hope you have a great time at the Sasquatch Gathering !
